This was an odd kind of book. It was published in 1919. It is a book of short stories of a small town in Ohio. This book showed us a small town that on the surface seemed quite normal. A quiet suburban town that had people who had dreams, success, failure, life, death, love and hate. Just like any other town. We have the privilege of seeing inside this town through the eyes of Anderson. He chose a person who was the focal point of the town, George Willard. Willard is a young, reporter who works for the local newspaper. He is a likeable guy and people seem to be drawn to him. He plays a big part in the social aspect of the town. This is not a book I could relate to. Some of the stories ended abrupt. No closure. I did, however, get a sense of what the social aspect of a small Midwestern town in 1919 might be like and it did make an impression, however slight.

I only read SIR GAWAIN, but I used this particular text (the Boroff translation).
