One of the best books of all time.

I LOVED the characterization in this book! They all really stand out and I could understand and connect with them. There was a lot of mystery and suspicion and you don't really know who the bad guy (or gal) is so even when I liked all the characters I was picking them apart trying to figure out if they could be a killer. Because you see, this is a murder mystery. Clarity lives with her mother and brother, both of which have 'gifts' and they run a psychic shop near the boardwalk in a tourist town. But things go a little crazy when a girl is found murdered and then the Mayor decides to let Clarity in on the case to use her ability to pick up what she can. She has to work with her ex boyfriend and the new detectives son, who is super yummy. Actually both boys are hotties and Clarity has her work cut out for her if she plans to keep hating on these boys. Clarity's mother and her brother are both very important to the story and both were great. I felt a lot of anger at her brother for some of his decisions but it was clear that him and Clarity were very close. Their mother is very eccentric and I just loved her personality. I really like it when a parent is more involved in the story and she definitely was awesome. Clarity was my favorite though. She's got a tough skin from being picked on all her life because of her ability and she's not afraid to stand up for herself. She's outspoken and she's tough. She doesn't spend any of her time being scared. She's a girl that does a good job at taking care of herself while still getting stuff done. She felt authentic to me. In her thoughts and actions. The romance was good. It wasn't really an important part of the story but there was flirting and some kissing, but Clarity doesn't really know what she wants. She's angry at her ex boyfriend but still has feelings for him and the new guy is super hot but doesn't believe in her ability. I really had to give her kudos for how she handled everything. At least 90% of the time. I really really loved this book and HIGHLY encourage you to pick it up if you haven't already. I'm very anxious to read more about her, her family and her man candy.

Note, this is a review of the entire series and not just this one volume. For those interested in only the volume, it starts off good enough but it gets better as it moves along. Wow. While something that doesn't quite pick up until you get to a certain point, this series is an amazing read (at least up to the point where I'm at) that is highly recommended to anyone and everyone. The main characters don't really change, but are deep enough to compensate. All the cast is entertaining (though no accounting for personal preference) and can realistically change from being humorous to dramatic. The heroes are likeable, all the villains are horrible creatures (which just makes it all the more satisfying when they're beaten to a pulp), and the side characters are interesting enough to read about. There isn't really an overarching plot per say (as far as I can tell), but instead there are plot arcs that sometimes intertwine. The arcs all do their job in entertaining and are all wonderful, but the format allows a reader to easily stop if they get bored with it. Content-wise, there is a decent amount of blood drawn, but it didn't really disturb me or anything. This isn't super violent stuff. There is occasional nudity (hot spring scenes), but nothing is shown. If need be these scenes can be skipped if the reader chooses so. Surprisingly I haven't spotted any swearing from what I've read. I might have missed some, and there might be some in the future, but I remain pleasantly surprised. The Good: Enjoyable characters, plot, humor, etc. The Bad: Some might not care for the art style (I personally like it), might seem never ending. Verdict: If you have the time, READ IT!

The only reason I finished reading the book was because I paid money for it. It's a story of a sad girl with an imaginary friend who grows up to become an insecure woman with the same imaginary friend. Why,oh why, do people like this book?!?! The idea of the book is intrigueing but it seems the author rushed through the story and couldn't think of an interesting way to develop the characters so he just didn't develop them.
