I read this book in the 9th grade. The House on Mango Street was an amazing book. It is best to read it with someone or with cliff notes because on the surface it seems to be filled with pointless stories. But if you think through each story and spend time on it, you will understand what is truly going on. It is best for mature audiences, less mature people would probably not even know what is going. It deals deeply with heritage, stereotypes, and relationships. One thing that may make this book harder to read is the lack of quotation marks in dialouge. But it is told from the perspective a pre-teen/teenager, so I think it adds character development. It gives a more realistic effect. All in all, an amazing work. Watch this author...

I'd only ever read Jitterbug Perfume by Tom Robbins and liked it, so thought it time to try another. Roadside attractions...sometimes creepy, often good fun...so I grabbed this one off the shelf. This one took more work for me to get through. I wasn't as interested in these characters as I was in Jitterbug. Though the rogue monk part was interesting...I would rather have heard more of that than of the narrator or of the roadside zoo. I might try another Robbins book, but not for a while...

This is my favorite Moore book to date. I believe I read this after Fluke (not immediately after...). I found the humor a bit less 'out there'. It's definitely not your typical vampire story by any means. I'm a very visual reader and Moore's writing leaves me with very distinct character images as well as those for the locales.

I read this book in middle school, and its stuck with me into gradschool. I'll never forget Scout or Boo Radley.
