Bitmiş diyorum, ama bitince demek istediğim kitabı okudum. Bu bitiremediğim ve bitiremediğim ilk Patricia Cornwell kitabı. Sanırım serideki 10'dan fazla kitaptan sonra, sadece çizimleri ve karakterleri bırakman gerekiyor. Yeter yeter. Karakterler artık sevilmezler ve bu serideki bütün askeri tema görünmüyor. Genelde kitaplarında kafam karıştı, ancak bu seferde, ne olduğu konusunda hiçbir CLUE yoktu. Bummer :-)

Bu kitap bana mutlaka yapmakta olduğu yemek tariflerini yapmak istememişti! Amanın. Julie Powell çok komik bir yazar ve kitabını okumaktan ve Buffy'yi sevmesinden hoşlanıyordum.

Bu kesinlikle okumaya değer bir kitaptır. Çok iyi yazılmış bir kitaptı. Chevy Stevens gerçekten de bu hikayeyi öyle bir şekilde bitirdi ki, sonuçtan hala şaşırdım.

İyi bir hikayenin tarih, fantazi ve yaşam karışımı olduğunu öğrendim. Bu kitabı sevdim.

I "picked up" this book as a cure for classroom boredom. By "picked up", I mean I bought the eBook version. I loved the book probably for a good third of it and then it got rather monotanous. The first few essays blew my mind. I had no idea there were twentysomethings who were just like me and (*grumble*) more articulate. Some of the essays I found to be self-indulgent, like the first one about being an L.A. slacker-turned starving NYC artist. Others, I pitied the writer for even mentioning the subject. Children? Iraq? Date rape? These are not controversial, and no, you do not have a new spin on them. I appreciated each essay for its personal perspective, but derived greatest enjoyment out of the humorous ones. Ultimately, though, I classify this book as chick-lit. I'm convinced that whoever selected the finallists had to be a woman. There are just one too many stories about "my baby and my bad luck" or "my boyfriend and my crap job". The war essays were few in number and I feel were selected reluctantly in acknowledgement of the war itself. While I fully understand why they chose the winner they chose, I think the timeliness of the winner's essay is way off. People from all walks of life become indentured servants of fast food? The horse is bloodied, beaten, and far past dead. All this aside, the astuteness and articulation of some of these authors compells me to tell you to read it ... you know, sometime, when you're bored.

Campbell's Jungian fascination has always kept me interested, which is more than I can say for many others in his milieu.
