Solid story about a girl who must leave her idyllic family farm on Vancouver Island and travel to Oregon to check on, and maybe bring home, her ailing grandparents. The year is 2041, and Molly must face numerous obstacles and challenges on her journey south, the main one being the Collapse of the USA - economically, if not necessarily politically. Seattle looks horrible, and Portland doesn't fare much better. While I had quibbles with the author's vision of the future, on the whole this is an engaging read. Still, it never felt like she was fighting for her survival, or truly threatened. I'll booktalk it to middle school kids.
