Throne of Glass is about a world-famous, nineteen year old assassin, Celaena, being recruited to compete for the "honor" of being the King's Champion, a prize that will ultimately result in her having her freedom. During the competition, however, she becomes entangled in an otherworldly plot that can be felt both by the First Queen of Adarlan appearing to her in visions, and in some sort of foul beast slaughtering the other competitors one-by-one. Throw in a turbulent sort-of-romance with both the Prince and the Captain of the Guard, and you've got the plot. There were a lot of things that I missed from the original version I read of this story, when it was up on Fictionpress several years ago. While it has definitely been condensed into a smaller volume, and edited to be more appropriate for the YA audience, I kind of missed the longer, more detailed narrative, and I tended to get a little frustrated with how the romantic relationships were carrying on. It's a good read, however, and I am looking forward to the next one.

I really thought there was a lot lacking in this one, it was very long for no real plot and no real action. Usually there is some strange person doing all the killing and you never would've suspected them, but you knew who it was all along. A poor effort by an author who doesn't really have to try anymore. But I'm still going to watch the Lifetime movie! ;)
