Disturbing and wonderful.

Yes, I've put this under the good yarns shelf. In high school I went through this stage where I just kept on reading Inferno translations. This was the best of them. It's true, a large part of that is because it rhymes, but the Italian rhymed; it makes the experience so much less of an abstraction.

I REALLY wanted to like this book, I love creepy old photos and historical fantasy and thought the premise sounded fantastic. However, I was disappointed in the execution. I thought the connection of the photos to the text was too forced, I felt the language was a little too casual for my tastes and I was disappointed that it was not a completely period piece. It was obvious that the ending was written with sequels in mind, which I found irritating as there was no resolution to the story.
