This is the sequel to The Adventures of Hardy Belch. Yet, like the Hardy Boys mysteries it reminds me of, I don't believe reading out of order will be a problem. The set up: Twelve-year-old Hardy Belch has a dog. But not just *any* dog. His pet is telepathic and some of the funniest bits are the talk-thoughts that go between owner and canine as they solve mysteries. The book is divided into short vignettes that would be easy for a reluctant reader to get into. The illustrations are excellent and really work with the story. The chapters breeze by, and, not wanting to spoil, but...there will be a dinosaur. (he's on the cover, duh). And buried treasure. And more treasure. This book is full of boy appeal.

I'd forgotten how hard Old English was to read, took me an hour to get through this tiny book, and boy did I have a headache after, but it was great fun deciphering it again, and good practise, looking forward to reading more of the tales now!
