I quite enjoyed this book. I like to turn to historical fiction every 3-4 reads or so, to delve into different time periods. This book gives us an interesting voice from the time of the Plague, and the protagonist is admirable. As it is a tale of a town that shuts down when the Plague invades, it IS a downer-no question on that. However, there's always something to look to that gives you hope, as an engaged reader. The relationships in this novel are interesting to consider as well. Give it a shot!

It is Mitchell as you know him but he has better works, even though Black Swan Green might be the most important for him.
