It was a good read about an american icon who led a fascinating and fantastical life.

I've been fascinated by Marcus Tullius Cicero ever since I worked on my thesis on libraries in Ancient Rome last year. I've also mentioned Tiro in that thesis as he took care of most of Cicero's books. Ever since then I'd wanted to get to know more about Cicero, his life & his work but after reading a series of biographies & autobiographies of other interesting people my first wish was not to read another biography. Imagine my surprise when I found this book in my library and realized Robert Harris wrote this novel for me: "starring" my dear Cicero & his faithful secretary/scribe Tiro. I appreciate Harris's style of writing. He doesn't seem to add too much "sensantional" plot twists and turns & dirty details from Wild Ancient Rome, thank god. Cicero's life sure was very eventful and not something you could make up, to add much more would be redundant. I also appreciate the author's matter-of-fact manner of telling the story. It's in character w/ Tiro, the narrator of the story but in my opinion it's also in character w/ Cicero himself. In short I can't wait for the 2nd part of the trilogy (have already ordered it) & for the final part that should come out this year!

this is the best of grisham that i've ever read.. it's heartbreaking! when i finished the book, i just cant help but have my eyes filled with tears!this is a cracker!
