This was my other adult read last summer (2010). I loved the writing and the grittiness of the characters. I actually bought a book because the library visit by Bonnie Jo Campbell was so good. I listened to it and read it at the same time. She also has matches with her book covers on them. And also American Salvage book cover temporary tattoos. How cool is that? I really don't like photography as an art form. I like paintings better. But the cover photograph is attractive and provocative at the same time and goes so well with the text!

Its rocking. Its entertaining at the least and awe inspiring and enlightening at the best. The novel sketches the journey of a person or a generation from "Darkness" to "Light". I call it enlightening because ,i interpret from the book that the people in the "darkness" fail to recognize the restraints that are holding them in it and so stay in it for so long to spawn generations in "darkness". But once they recognize these restraints and make trials to break the restraints, consequentially, a journey towards "light" would start. In this work,i 'd say "darkness" is poverty and servitude ,and journey towards "light" is getting as far away as possible from them.
