Underwhelming and not particularly engaging prose. Eh. Another mystery book about a genius and psychopath. Doesn't really bring up many interesting larger societal questions like Child 44 does. Disturbing but not with any particular point.

This is the third book in Anna Godbersen's Luxe series and it didn't disappoint. Set in New York at the start of the 20th century, Envy continues to follow the fabulous characters from the first two books. Society darling Elizabeth Holland mourns the death of her stable-boy husband, Will. Her sister Diana and Henry Schoonmaker still can't find a way to be together, thanks in no small part to the devious scheming of Penelope Schoonmaker, Henry's new wife. Former Holland maid, Carolina, continues to try to find her place in this lavish world of wealth and society. I relly enjoy this series. It has everything: intrigue, romance, fabulous lifestyles of wealth and ease, historical setting, and lots of fun characters to follow. Given the Victorian setting, it is also more tame in content than the Gossip Girl, etc. series out there for teen girls these days. I'm already looking forward to the next intallment, Splendor, set to publish in late October 2009.
