Quick read. I bought this book at the BYU bookstore last year. I enjoyed it and am now more interested to read some of the Shakespeare books I have. I bought another book by this author and am eager to read it. Really enjoyed this!

Before I read the book, I saw the movie. (I'm not sure it's out yet, but I saw a special preview event on campus.) I thought the film was fabulous, and now I know that it was extremely true to the book. This book was a very quick read for me- not quite two days, and well worth it. The plot is not simple, but not complex. It simply drives itself forward with a motion that seems entirely natural. The characters aren't as complex as I'd like to credit them with being, with the exception of the protagonist; an authorial decision I am more and more comfortable with a few days outside the book. Toward the end, the book becomes hard to read-- in the best possible way. The book, as described on the back in the snips of reviews, is called raw and excruciating. That doesn't hit until the very end, but when it does.... I had to put the book down every few pages or risk tears, and finally I did just break down and cry. However, it is completely worth it, as I found it to be a moving story as well as a good book and eye-opening look into Afghanistan (this on top of a great treatment of time-honored themes of loyalty, family, love, honor, etc etc.) Anyway, I highly recommend this book.
