I've seen the TV movies so decided to read the books. I love Tom Selleck as Jesse and the book seems as if it were written for him. Parker makes his character very likable even with his baggage and quiet persona. I look forward to the next one in the series.

I started reading this book over a year ago and lost my copy after the first couple of chapters. Those were great. In fact any given section shorter than, say, 50 pages is pretty good. But after that I get tired of listening to Portnoy complain to his analyst. That said, I kept reading because each segment was witty if not insightful and intelligent enough to keep me from being too offended. Had this been presented to me as a clever blog instead of as a novel, I probably would have enjoyed it. I will read more Roth some day, but Portnoy's complaining dropped him many notches down my priorities list.
