*** ORIGINAL REVIEW -- May 24, 2007 *** Charlotte Bronte fomented class revolution with this unapologetic sermon on the inherent worth of all humans---especially the impoverished, friendless, unconnected women who weren't particularly doable. She removes beauty from the male gaze and then contemplates: What makes a person deserving of love, respect, and opportunity? How does one respond who is reviled but feels an interior sense of worth? What is worth sacrificing for love and acceptance and rest? Stodgy the way I put it, Bronte makes it thrillsome and romantikal. As a youngin I eschewed, because I found Mr. Rochester too frightening and Jane too mousy. Now that I myself am better understanding of and accepting a philosophy of inner- over outer-beauty, I can much better appreciate That Lady Author's machinations. Reader, I enjoyed it. *** UPDATED REVIEW -- August 23, 2016 *** I just reacquainted myself with Jane Eyre by way of Dreamscape Media's excellent audio production, gorgeously, gorgeously narrated by Anna Bentinck. She's a superb voice actor and did much to enhance my understanding of Rochester's gruff humor, somehow modernizing it for me and making him more accessible. She humanized him, and this time I read him as insecure + self-aggrandizing + with a dark sense of humor, all of which softens his edges a bit.

من أشهر وأنا أتردد في قراءة حكومة الظل..حتى أني وضعتها في رف الكتب التي سأقرأها ثم قمت بإزالته لا أعلم لماذا بصراحة!!ص لكن ولحسن الحظ..وجدت نفسي مجبرة على قراءتها في شهر أغسطس حيث وقع اختيار هذا الكتاب لنادي القراءة الذي أنا فيه.. بدأت فيه وأنا غير مقتنعة بصراحة.. لكن بعد أن تجاوزت الصفحات الأولى...وجدت بأني أمام كتاب يدفعني الغموض الذي يحتويه والتشويق لتقليب صفحاته الواحدة تلو الأخرى.. راودني شعور بالخوف في بداية الرواية..:)1 لكن تغلبت عليه بعدها ولله الحمد :)1 لاحظت أمر..وهو تسارع الاحداث بشكل ملحوظ..حتى أنه راودني شعور بأن الكاتب كان يخشى أن يفلت منه انتباهـ القارئ أو مواصلته للقراءة..0 حكومة الظل رواية أحببتها...أضافت إلي معلومات لم أعلمها من قبل..وفتحت لي مجال القراءة بالتاريخ..ولو على أقل فكرة بشكل مبدئي..فلست ممن تستويهم كتب التاريخ أبدا..لكن شيئاً ما جعلني أبحث عن كتاب عن الدولة العثمانية..رغم أني لم أفكر بالأمر من قبل.. بالنسبة للجزء الثاني..جعلت قراءته فكرة مؤجلة..رغم أن حكومة الظل أعجبتني!!0
