I thought I would love this book because it's about secret, shady Western meddling in the affairs of the DRC, through the eyes of a naive interpreter with a most unusual upbringing. But the plot seemed too simple for a full-lenth novel; more suited to a short story. The actual political wheelings and dealings in a mysterious offshore location in the North Sea are overly detailed and drawn out, and the side story of the interpreter's love life is too unrealistic and dramatic. Quite a depressing ending, too.
