I picked this up because I liked Jeanine Frost's Night Huntress series. This is the only paranormal in this collection. Unfortunately, it was lame, and the rest go downhill from there. I've run out of superlatives: lame, lamer, lamest, lamerer? Lame supreme? The winner for lame-idity goes to the last story, "Charmed by her smile.” She fondles his gray hair as he anguishes about how young and innocent she is, not even being “out” at her London Season yet. I think this relationship could be prosecuted as a criminal offense in most states. Ick.

This thing blew my mind. It might be in my top three historical romances, vying for #1. I love spy stuff, and this is just a great one for that. The love action and the spy action enthralled me, and the story is rich and right. Bourne is such a great craftsperson, on a sentence level, too. The feel of the language, the speech, even the interior thoughts of different characters is spot on. Oh, look at me, how bad a description this is. Because, this book was kind of an experience.
