My roommate left Kitchen Table Wisdom around the kitchen and it was just that for me for awhile. The cover suggests new-agey, Chicken Soup/Reader's Digest type reading and it is that and more. Though it isn't necessarily "my type" have a soft spot for this type of reading as my grandma likes it and I grew up Catholicy. What a beautiful thing, I think, to start your day with an inspiring little non-fiction short story!I used to read short stories at the kitchen table from Kitchen Table Wisdom at like 6am before work and shed a little cathartic tear with my coffee before going into my tough job. When my roommate shelfed the book one day my morning didn't seem the same and I told her. She later gave it to me! I enjoyed reading short story tales of triumph over personal physical struggle. You think you have problems; try missing a leg, or having your brain fart out. My roommate's doctor aunt apparently wrote one of these stories; I have to find out which one. The aunt gifts this book to said roommate over and over again through the years for holidays! Lolz! The roommate, though in the field, has yet to read the book! Author Rachel Naomi Remen is a physician and chronic illness survivor and compiled these stories. I like the idea of a physician author really connecting with her profession and suffering patients through literature. Also it makes sense to me that a survivor would want to be a doc, but I am not sure what came first for Remen... On a completely different note, who has the time to be a doc and writer? Ms. Remen, I suppose. Anyway, those doctor types do like to do it all. I'd like to give this book to my friend's dad who is a Chief of Staff Oncologist and emotionally dry guy. He likes non-fiction though, I believe. What an intimate thing to pick out a book for someone-
