This was a fantastic read, comprehensible and witty. Thanks to the reader reviews I picked up a book I normally would not have searched out.

This book makes me feel wise and weak simultaneously. I see what I don't have the strength to let go of, I see my interred dependancies, those things which have taken root and have nowhere to go and instead remain planted and grow upwards. But I still feel planted myself in reading this, which is crafted like an extended journal, and my personal favorite of Krakauer's work. Krakauer's sympathy extends to the young fool and his wondrous delusion of true self-reliance. But then, we all have to admit, sooner or later, before or while dying, and failing that the admission falls to those who survive us, that we'd be nowhere without those who came before us and those who surround us still. Even this book hasn't resolved my latent asceticism.
