One of my favorites. It brought many emotions to my sober complexion. I was happy, sad, grieved, horrified, and hurt all at once. Looking for Alaska is a perfect read for those who enjoy thinking about books even when they aren't reading them. I found and still find myself thinking hard about this novel. well done John Green

"A month can go by just like that. I could barely remember anything I'd done the whole month. Sometimes it felt like I'd done a lot, sometimes like I hadn't accomplished a thing. It was only when the guy came at the end of the month to collect money for the newspaper delivery that I realized a whole month had flown by. Yep, that's life all right."

This is a really great example of Free Verse poetry. I really like novels written in poetry format! I think books such as these are great to recommend to reluctant readers because they are such quick reads. While the subject matter of this particular book is pretty deep, its not at all too much for an upper elementary or middle school student. A boy lives separated from his sister in a foster home because his parents died in a fire. They were unable to stay with relatives, but have both found good homes...unfortunately they just don't have the same home. It is very touching and I'm looking forward to reading the sequel..."Peace, Locomotion"

** spoiler alert ** Genre: Suspense Thirteen Reasons Why by Jay Asher is about a boy named Clay Jensen who receives a bunch of tapes that were recorded by Hannah Baker. She was a classmate of his and committed suicide two weeks before. Clay is one of 12 people to receive theses tapes. Whoever gets these tapes is one of the thirteen reasons why she killed herself. If the people on the tapes don't pass them on, then the tapes will be revealed to the public and everyone will know their secrets. I really liked the way this story was written. The way Hannah was talking on the tapes made me feel like I was listening to them too. The way she is talking, you can hear the sarcasm in her voice. When Hannah speaks, she uses a lot of dark humor as well. I recommend this book to people who like suspense with a twist.
