I loved it! To begin with I didn't really care for Allison. I thought she was such a cold indifferent human being but then as I settled into the story I realized I had not lived the life she had and she was the way she was because of the many things she had been through and for survival. I was then able to empathize more with her. The more I "walked" with her and then her "monster" I started having more feelings towards her especially respect for what she was trying to accomplish no matter what she was. My heart eventually literally cried for her because everytime she tried to belong someplace something would happen. I am ready to move on to the next book now and see what's next!

Putnam's research on civic society in Italy throughout history is extensive and it raises questions over what came first; democracy or civiv society. He believes civic engagement is a pre-cursor to democracy and therefor a state cannot experience any sense of democracy until its citizens are active and make the effort to come together in some form or fashion.

My fifteen-year-old nephew and I will be seeing this movie together (How cool is that???), but I wanted to read the novel first. (Now I just hope I can convince him to read it too.) The pov is from the male beast, which I think is cool and interesting. What a wonderful surprise and treat it turned out to be. Alex Flinn did an amazing job putting a new spin on the BEAUTY AND THE BEAST story. It's touching, well written, and very much in line with our times. It wasn't hard to suspend belief and delve into this fantasy as if it were real. It was easy to fall in love with the characters. This is a great book for reluctant readers. I hope the movie sticks closely to the book - a tall order for sure. Will update this review after I see it.
