** spoiler alert ** Ever read a book that made you rethink the rating of the previous book in the series. This is definitely a four star, maybe a 3.999. in contrast, If I Stay adds the whole dimension of the out of body experience and the emotions of someone dying, it was definitely a 4.5 or 5. I rated it a 4, must have been the rushed ending. The characters are back but the book seems.. I don't know what the word is, maybe "trying". I had a hard time switching from the strong emotions of Mia's experience to Adam's angst. Hers was elegant (IIS), his was glam rock (WSW). I don't want to second guess Gayle's switch of perspective but I wasn't quite ready to detach from Mia. Guess I am only feeling Adams pain. The ending is a little unbelievable with what Adam does to his career. There doesn't seem to be a setup for a third book in the series.
