Set in czechoslovakia from the late 20s to 1990 this is a fantastic book set around a house who's focal point is a huge glass room. The characterization is superb with a great mix of characters from the persecuted jew to the party member 'comrade'. I really recommend reading this as it is so easy to read and really difficult to put down. Some of the novel is written in quite a simplistic style but it really suits the book. I have also read some reviews that say the ending lets the book down but I thought it was really lovely (if a little contrived).

A great collection of short stories. I think I liked this one better than his other collection, Wolves in Their Youth. Some of the stories fit together loosely in the second half of the book. It's amazing how far Chabon can pull you in in such a short number of pages. hands down, my favorite living writer since Vonnegut is now dead. P( sad pirate.
