We were assigned to read this book in an undergrad Spanish class. Thank goodness I read the English version, because then I could understand this lyrical, marvelous story. I love Allende's use of magical realism, and I love how the novel spans several generations of strong women. So much of this book would have been lost on me if I actually did the assignment.
