My thoughts seem to be the same as a lot of other people. I loved the first half of the book with the history of the family, and I liked the narrative style. I didn't like the present story or how it fit with the rest book as much, but it wasn't enough to make me dislike the book as a whole.

careful, Bertram. Your biases are showing!

I think I read this book in 3 days...I could not put it down. The story line was incredibly original, and definitely very quirky. I liked all the characters and felt that the plot was expertly woven together. I won't say anything else, other than YES, READ THIS BOOK!

Love Lee Child's style of writing. Although his books are somewhat violent the violence is not gratuitous.

On the whole quite good. The essays range from amazing to pretty good. There's a lot of experimenting with form here which for the most part works well. Even when it doesn't quite do more than just be an interesting experiment, well.. at least it is an interesting experiment. He also seems to have a knack knowing when to wrap up a clever idea before it overwhealms the piece.

David Clark provides a quick, popular history of the interaction of germs on genes and civilization. He let slips his political stance on several occasions, but provides a decent introduction to the topic with many interesting readings listed in the back.

This seems to have been the seminal work of sociobiology. Though written for a mass readership rather than for specialists, Morris lays down a very convincing case - now, 40 years on, obviously wrong in many details, but essentially strong - that human behavior is bounded by biological tendencies to a much greater extent and in many more ways than previously accepted.
