This book changed my life. I think it is the first book that actually made me stop and think about what it means to be human and all the things you take for granted as a child. I re-evaluated authority figures, government, religion, and social taboos after reading this. I like where I've ended up and would shake Mr. Heinlein's hand were he still alive. I must give this book the highest praise I know: it made me think.

Picked it up because it had "dogs" in the title and bought it because the synopsis made it sound dogcentric. Surprised that it wasn't as focused on the dog as I was expecting, but pleasantly so. Loved the surprises of not knowing what would happen next and the quirky paths the author took to illustrate the relationship between the man and the woman he's lost to suicide. Would definitely pick up Ms. Parkhurst's next book.
