A modern-day classic that deals with a number of themes, chief among them the horrors and absurdity of war. The book has to do with the arguably cynical Allied bombing of Dresden near the end of World War II. Vonnegut was actually on the ground at Dresden during the air raids, as he'd been captured by German troops. His job was to collect dead bodies in between rainfalls of incendiary bombs. Slaughterhouse-Five might be Vonnegut's best book.
