After reading Sandman, I understood that Neil Gaiman could write beautifully grand stories that always seemed to be pulled from things you understood as a child, but somehow had been mostly forgotten. American Gods is a story about a man who gets caught up in a war between Gods old and new. I love the atmosphere in this novel. Half dream, half reality and half again of something beautiful that strangely transcends both and makes them something more than what they were before. I'm not sure I can actually put into words how this book made me feel, other than to say that it sparked my imagination like few other books have been able to do. It made me think. And that may be the highest praise of all.

Good battle end but glad to see the back of this mini-plot! Onwards..
