I really enjoyed this powerful book. Set in both 2002 and 1942 France, the book follows the stories of two French women. The first, Julia, is an American journalist living in 2002 Paris who is documenting the events surrounding the 1942 French police round-up of tens of thousands of Jewish families (many of whom perished in Auschwitz) for the 60th anniversary of the event. Sarah, a 10 year-old girl living in 1942 Paris, is one of the children arrested in the round-up. The book switches back and forth from Julia to Sarah and is spellbinding. I couldn't put this book down. However, I felt the ending was predictable and a let-down. Were it not for the ending, I would have given this book 5 stars.
