John and Irene both knew on their wedding day that they shouldn't get married. Interesting premise for a marriage. Well, they go ahead and, surprisingly, their marriage doesn't last. John remains in Minnesota and Irene leaves for San Francisco taking Sadie their eight year old daughter with her. Skip ahead ten years and all that holds them together emotionally is their adoration of their daughter. Then there is a crisis and John flies to San Francisco to help deal with it.
