A swift, thoughtful book, "Ghosts" is one you can put back on one lazy afternoon, but it will haunt you long afterwards. Set in an under-construction luxury apartment building, the skeleton building is populated by one of the migrant workers who is helping to construct the building and his family. It's also populated by the eponymous ghosts, among whom the family lives peacefully, until one New Year's Eve night, they suddenly don't. "Ghosts" is a meditation on what it means to have a sense of place (or not) and its quiet perception belies its foreboding outcome.
