I had high expectations for this book and perhaps that was the problem. While there were moments of brilliance, there were also periods of tedium and long-winded-ness; plotlines that seemed unnecessary; seemingly important characters left to drift into the ether; and an ending that was foreshadowed and rather predictable. So four stars for the brilliance, two stars for the tedium - averages out to my three stars overall. A disappointment for this Michael Chabon fan.
