This book is about finding family where you least expect it. I didn't like this as well as Sing Them Home, the author's second book, perhaps that is because I read them in reverse order, but I think it's because her wirting got more plausible. Like Sing Them Home, this has excellent characters, and lots of heart-tugging moments, but happenings that were completely implausible just shot me right out of the story a couple of times, which is a shame, because Kallos really knows how to create a spell. Both books are some of the best fiction I have read in a long time.

This was another great adventure in The Sword of Truth series. What I love most about this series is that it isn't just a series of books. This story is an epic in every sense of the word. Each book seemlessly goes into the next one in the chain all culminating in one big ending. Going through each story adds another layer into your mind. I love how they all link up and go into one another. I love how they explain things from the earlier books in the later ones. Stone of Tears is one of the lesser books I will say but is needed in the story to flow nicely together. It is still a good read nonetheless and I was left at some parts in near tears because of the amount of emotion in this book.

The opening chapters are awesome. Louis Wu, a very old man, trying to stretch out his two hundredth birthday by using teleportation to stay an hour ahead of midnight, then running into an alien with an intriguing offer... and then it's off to the races. Only the races are a lot of traveling around a fairly static environment. It's a classic of the world-building subgenre of sf, but the titular world isn't terribly interesting. Still, not a bad read.
