This "kid's" book tackles some very grown up topics: race, class, feminism, the immigrant experience, etc...all while being an entertaining murder mystery/puzzle. The protagnist is smart young girl- which is refreshing. She's kinda an ugly spazz who kicks boys in the shins. Represent!
