This is less of a review than a shout out to my friends, praising Mark Helprin. I've listed only and as "read", as these two stand out as sublime beauties of American Literature, but I love them all. Adore the characters, live in whichever space of history Helprin carves out for you, and enjoy the tinge of fantasy that passes by like a blink.
