If there is a single source for the best arguments for atheism, this is it. Although some of the pieces in the compilation are a bit dated, they are nevertheless benchmark works by some of the brightest minds of the twentieth century. Atheism is currently seeing a resurgence and any interested reader would do well to investigate its intellectual underpinnings offered here.

This book was really slow for me. The only part I found interesting was the victim's novelized version of the events in Vietnam. I won't read this author again.

3.5 O'Nan is a strong writer and I will read him again. He does a wonderful job of portraying one evening in the restaurant business and making you care enough to keep reading even if you are wondering why this has been put into the form of a novella--as I was. This feels perfectly accurate having spent years in restaurants serving damn near every role: dishwasher, cook, host, server, and manager. O'Nan gets the details right and nails many of the characters that inhabit this world. Perhaps it felt too much like reading a day in my former life. The fact that he could write about this world and make me want to continue to read deserves credit.

Amazing! Some of the most clear, insightful and incisive personal characterizations I've ever come across in literature (I really did see my friends and family in the protagonists). Two very compelling love stories -- one hopeful, one destructive.
