Shards of Honour begins the Vorkosigan Saga, which introduces us to Commander Aral Vorkosigan and Captain Cordellia Naismith. The book is a mix of science fiction, political intrigue, survival, war, and even some romance. Cordellia serves as the main narrator for the story, and I found this distracted a little bit from the political intrigue the author tried to establish. Since everything came through Cordellia's perspective, I didn't feel like I adequately understood the complexity of the situation, nor did the book achieve the tension I would expect from that kind of plot line. Despite that issue, I did enjoy the book, and I'm looking forward to continuing the saga. I think there are something like 15 in the series.
