The Quan Quan itibaren La Chapelle-sur-Coise, Fransa

Having translated some of the original Old English, I find that this translation is a very good one, and the story is excellent. Of course, if you enjoy the book, you should then watch "The Thirteenth Warrior."
Ugh, cloying, nostalgia overkill. I can't believe it's the translation that makes this book so unlikeable. The protagonist lives in a dream state, or that's how the writer works his prose. It's repetitive and tedious and you feel as if both you and the writer and the protagonist have wasted time being dreamy instead of taking action or thinking of something other than oneself. Not rec'd.
I love how L'Engle just totally abuses the whole family. They're all old now and it was fun to read about the generations after.
Corto pero intenso, como es habitual en Amélie Nothomb.
