I've been wanting to read this ever since I saw the movie (which was NOT about the civil war, but which I expected to be so I was confused for the first half hour...waiting for the British-accented people to finally get to the US!) Anyway, it's so long that I just kept putting it off, but when I found an audio version I was able to enjoy it in it's entirety while working out, traveling and painting the nursery. I found it especially appealing since the reader was British.

This first person account of two college students who 'become homeless' in six different U.S. cities was a captivating read. The author feels called by God to make a difference in the lives of those on the margins of society and thus 'became homeless' to better understand and to experience their needs. It was heartbreaking to read about the many faces of homelessness and the myriad of reasons that one becomes homeless. The author said that for himself the hardest part was the feeling of loneliness and the lack of human contact. Now, what can I do? There are many homeless here in Bend and just handing out money is not the best way of helping.

This book was mediocre at best. This book was clearly written by a man, but not something the men I know would ever read. I was disappointed honestly. Crappy storyline, but there was a decent surprise at the end.

Hmmmmm not sure what to say about this book. I don't think I liked it actually. There were some things that disturbed me and then the ending was horrific. That's probably a thumbs done eh?
