Sevdim!
Read this review on my blog! --> Beautiful Days by Anna Godbersen Bright Young Things, the first book in this series, did not end with the happiest of story lines. Cordelia, Astrid, and Letty were all dealing with some heartbreaking issues. And while in this book things seem to be looking up for all three girls by the end, it did leave me with a feeling of foreboding, like it’s the calm before the storm. In the first book’s prologue we’re told that of the three girls, “one would be famous, one would be married, and one would be dead.” While you may think the ending of this book seals their fates, I still can’t be sure. I think Ms. Godbersen is going to surprise me in the end. We got lots of Charlie and Astrid drama in this book. Volatile relationship, that one. One minute they’re so happy together, the other they’re at each other’s throats. I have to admit, Charlie scares me sometimes. He’s like a time-bomb. Cordelia is trying hard to move on after Thom Hale destroyed her heart. She finally has a run in with the trick pilot she rescued at the end of the first book, Max Darby. He was hard to figure out!! But I admit to being as intrigued by him as Cord was. And Thom Hale is still in the picture somehow, but I don’t know what to make of him right now. I feel like he’s just a victim of circumstance, but maybe I just want him to be a good guy. Now, Letty...oh, my poor Letty. She worries me the most. I think it’s because she gets so low when she’s down. And she’s just so naive sometimes! I really hope she doesn’t end up getting herself into anything bad. Also, I kind of wish things would’ve turned out differently with Grady. When I read Bright Young Things last year, I fell in love. I fell for the characters, the time period, the story...and now it has happened again. To say this series sweeps me away would be an understatement. I am gone. Totally enthralled. (And if you haven’t read the first book, it is currently free for both Kindle and Nook!)
Rating 3.5 So, in The Loner we have Dillon Cassidy(DEA friend of Riley from Who's the Boss) and Sydney(the reporter of Hidalgo County). Sydney is a great reporter, tenacious and can smell a story from a mile away. She tried the big city route and instead got stabbed(by a friend and realized her fiancee didn't really love her) and now loves where she is. So, when two teenage kids go missing, she knows there is a story and goes on the hunt. When we last met Dillon he was getting burned out and planning to hand his badge, but he hung on to nab a drug lord, which resulted in him getting injured and a bullet lodged in his spine, which could paralyze him any moment. So, now he's retired and living like a recluse, when his friend Riley tells him he needs his help to track down two kids. Dillon isn't sure, his back limits him quite a bit. They both run into each other as they are on the same track and Dillon isn't that polite but Sydney is no push-over and does as she pleases, in turn discovering the body of one of the boys. I enjoyed the book especially the push and pull between them, Sydney was very independent and Dillon didn't want to get involved and saddle a woman with a man who could get paralyzed any moment. Even though I am not a big fan of books with reporters, this one was enjoyable, I did have a problem with Dillon pushing her away in the end and would have liked he accepted her at that time only. Now, I am going to read Lady in Red which features Sydney's reporter friend Blake.
