Berçem-Ahmet Can Altıok Berçem – Ahmet Can Altıok 'Ey karanlıklara bir mum yakmak yerine, bütün ışıkları söndüren katil!

Even though I go through several books in a month (er, I mean week), I don't get a chance to say what I'm about to say too often. Most of the books I read fall into a grey area with some only being slightly more memorable than others, yet still forgotten in time. Only a select few of these books stand out, some becoming instant favorites while others leave me wondering "Why the *bleep* did this author even bother to write this let alone publish it?". Both are rare. "The Underneath" is one of those two "stand out" types. Like I said, I don't get a chance to say this too often. Here goes: I absolutely loved, loved, loved, loved, LOVED this book!!!! "The Underneath" is a story about an old, lonely hound dog who adopts a family of stray cats. It is a story about an ancient being who is dreaming of revenge. It is a story about an evil man with even more evil schemes. It is a story of Karma, where good overcomes and evil gets exactly what it deserves. It is a story told by the birds, by the snakes, by the grasses and the trees and by the swampy waters where the book is set. It is a story of friendship, of endurence, of bravery, of finding home, of second chances, of promises and of love. It is a story that can be read and understood on many different levels. It is a story that can be enjoyed by all, regardless of age. The concept of the story is simple: An old abused and forgotten dog suddenly finds himself the caregiver to two very adorable kittens. One of the kittens becomes lost and must find his way home. Together the animals must work together to defeat the evil man threatening all their lives. Simple, yes. But such a story is actually very difficult to write and write well (I've read enough of them to form such an opinion). Author Kathi Applet has done a beautiful job in crafting this story. The well-transitioned alternating viewpoints moved the story along and helps the reader get to know each of the characters as though they were introduced to them personally. And her poetic and abolutely unique use of the English language is as much art as works by Picasso or Monet or Bach. Bravo to "The Underneath"! I now recommend this book to EVERYONY out there on goodreads. Read and enjoy!!
