The Athenians send a mesanger, Pheidipides, to Sparta where a strong army lives. The Athenians can win with the Spartans help. But the Spartans won't help. Pheidipides must run many kilometers as a mesenger to help the Athenians, and from this great story comes the Marathon Races of the Modern Olympics. Children 6-12 years old learn history and its relation to today. This story prepares, but does not introduce, the Present Perfect tense. The story of Marathon was retold in the Present Simple and Present Continuous Tenses.

** spoiler alert ** I especially enjoyed this one. Rephaim got a nice gift from the goddess but I was sad the Linda died just when she was planning to start anew.

Someone had this book for more than 2 months at the library, I had the fifth book before I finally got that one. I've read books 4,5, and 6 back to back in just a couple of days, so it kind of all blurs together for me.

this was the 1st selection for the boston u of c young alumni book club. the writing is well-developed and interesting - ishiguro is obviously talented - but the story is almost painfully sad.
