A country neighborhood is thrown into arrears when the lord of the manor comes at last, bringing with him a married couple, an elegant yet stern gentleman, and an elegant sister who looks down her nose at everybody and believes she is the best match for the stern gentleman. Yet, a somewhat plain but witty woman named Elizabeth is the true object of his affections, which becomes increasingly evident when bad weather during a walk forces her to stay in the manor house for a bit. Sound familiar? Ok, so the elegant lady is not the lord of the manor's sister, and Elizabeth is a governess/companion who knows the stern gentleman from her one season in London, when he broke her heart. and the getting stuck at the manor house is not such a big deal. But really? A bit much for a coincidence.
